But bringing a new product to market effectively is difficult, so we’ve adopted a process that integrates human-centred design thinking, to help de-risk each stage, giving you confidence that your customers will love your product as much as you do. 

The origins

The LUMA story began within MAYA Design, a world-class design consultancy and technology research lab. As MAYA used human-centred design methods for all types of projects, clients would ask, “Can you teach us to work this way?” LUMA was founded in 2010 to do exactly that, on a global scale. Our team is trained in the LUMA approach and toolkit of methods so that we can deliver as practitioners and facilitators.

LUMA

The LUMA Institute defines Human-Centred Design as the discipline of developing solutions in the service of people.

The word LUMA literally comes from: Looking, Understanding and Making and is founded on the belief that any individual, team and organisation has the potential to innovate, but just may not know how.

In general, it's an activities-based approach to creative problem-solving, that focuses on people above other factors - whether the challenge is making a better product, process, service or anything else.

We like the ancient proverb:

"Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime."
