With global production of plastics around 360 million tonnes in 2018 and set to triple by the year 2050, we at The Imagination Factory believe that more can be done by designers and engineers, to ensure less plastic ends up in our environment, either as landfill or as litter.

As a certified B Corp it is in The Imagination Factory’s DNA to be resource-conscious and look for ways to design in harmony with the planet’s resources.  So, we were delighted to be given the opportunity to design a product that was both for and from recycled plastics.

FundWaste is an innovative startup helping businesses and organisations generate revenue from waste, by recycling plastic and paper using a 'waste to wealth' methodology.

in 2019, we set out to design a product with post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics, using both 'Design For' and 'From Recycling' strategies.

Four years ago, a consortium of 20 expert organisations, including The Imagination Factory, joined forces, to investigate how to improve the circular use of plastics in product development.

Our goal was to significantly reduce the use of virgin plastics and increase the use of recycled plastics in electronic devices.

Designing for and from recycling is a challenge to do effectively and profitably. That we have designed a product with 100% recycled plastic from the post consumer recycling stream is ground breaking.

"As designers and engineers, we’re strategically placed to have a significant impact on the challenge of designing plastic products for recycling by making smarter decisions about the materials we specify for the products we design."
