We did it!

The Imagination Factory is proud to be amongst the first UK product design and engineering business to be awarded the coveted B Corp status.

At The Imagination Factory, our purpose has always been bigger than what we design and build. We’re proud of our skills as creatives, engineers and manufacturers, but what makes us who we are is our approach. Sure, we make stuff that matters, but what matters to us, is the impact design decisions have on people and the planet. Whether it is finding biodegradable materials to replace plastics in designs or designing products to stand the test of time.

We’re always asking questions like: Have we broken new ground and moved the needle for the next generation of designers and engineers? What is our legacy and have we done our best for the people tasked with a product when it’s no longer useful?
As a business, we need profit to thrive, but it’s our social purpose that’ll help us thrive as a society. B Corp rubber stamps those ingrained principles.

What is B Corp?

B Corp, or B Corporation, is a term grown out of “benefit corporation” – a business with an ethical social purpose. It’s big news in the business world, but it’s also gaining traction in the minds of mere mortals.

“...one of five key business trends to master… B Corps are for-profit businesses that have met a rigorous third-party standard for overall social and environmental performance, legal accountability to align the interests of their business with those of society, and radical transparency to rebuild trust with a skeptical public.”
Wired (20 Sept 2017)

“Certifying as a B Corp is a symbol that your business is having a positive impact on communities, employees and the environment.”
Metro UK (9 Dec 2020)

The B Corp global movement has attracted thousands of diverse companies to its cause since its launch in 2006. By December 2020, 3,600 certified B Corporations across 75 countries are proudly doing business in a different way. Household names such as Ben & Jerry’s, The Guardian and innocent drinks are all dedicated to a business model that values people and planet over profit. Now The Imagination Factory has joined their ranks.

What B Corp means for us

Our B Corp status crystallises who we’ve always been. It’s not about virtue signalling or jumping on an ethical bandwagon, this is about a fundamental belief that businesses can and should be better.

At The Imagination Factory we want to do things the right way, knowing that our products and innovations aren’t built on the suffering of others. B Corp status is an on-going adherence to a set of important values. This adherence isn’t easy and will be scrutinised by B Labs to ensure we continue to be worthy of our B Corp status. None of us want to be stripped of our B Corp stripes because we put a foot wrong. None of us are striving to improve our B Corp status because of how it looks to others.

We want to be held accountable. We want the B Corp Santa to be ready to stick us on the Naughty List for any transgression. Not because we’re smug, but because being under the magnifying glass pushes us further. It forces our thinking in a positive direction, even when there are easier paths to be taken. And the truly inspiring thing about the B Corp community is this isn’t just about us, it’s about everyone. Including you.

Business as a Force for Good

What B Corp means for our clients

Our B Corp status signals who we are, but it also signals who we work with. Clients that choose The Imagination Factory are demonstrating support for the positive impact that B Corps bring about. Working with us, or any of the B Corp global family, illustrates to your end customers that your brand is a force for good. You’re showcasing that the future your brand is working towards is a positive one for all. If that sounds attractive, maybe you should join us.

Okay, that sounds a bit ‘culty’, but seriously, if you like the way The Imagination Factory does business and you want a slice of that socially-responsible pie (it’s apple, by the way... with custard, naturally), why not get involved? It’s not easy or cheap to get that B Corp accreditation, but it’s sooooo worth it; not just for you, but for everyone your brand touches.
